Handwritten Passover Hagadah

This is a handwritten book, likely written by a youth (likely Baghdadi) in 5603 (1902 or 1903). In the front, it is inscribed with the Hebrew date, and the assumed scribe: Ha-Tseir Katsuri ben Shaul Yaʻaḳov Yehudah Yaʻaḳov. Inside is the entire Passover Hagadah with small illustrations and decorations, as well as other prayers and poems from other parts of Jewish liturgy: Lekhah Dodi and Yedid Nefesh from Sabbath Evening prayers. The text of the Hagadah includes a paragraph-by-paragraph translation of the Hebrew text to Judeo-Arabic.

The archival material contains correspondence between different Baghdadi Jewish schools regarding: school matters, student transfers, acceptance forms, school reports, acceptance letters, graduation certificates, medical notification excuses, name changes, student punishment and parent’s requests for their children to repeat classes, pledge for misbehaving, and recommendation letters; photographs of students are included. It includes letters from schools to the Directorate of Education for certificate for ratification, to the Directorate of Missions and Equalization of Diplomas, and to the General Director of Recruitment. Also included is a letter from the Head of the Jewish Lay Council to the Directorate of Education regarding the reorganization of the Jewish schools to conform to the Ministry of Education’s new rules that concerns the students whom have been discharged from Jewish school because their Iraq citizenship has been revoked.

Daniel’s Endowments, Subject: Coffee Shop.” Included are: an inventory for endowed properties, their size and name of their owners; correspondence regarding the coffee shop; an official lease and receipt for lease of the shop; letter informing the committee of tenant's changes to the shop; a formal letter from the President of Administrative Committee for Iraqi Jews to the Head of Property Tax to inform them that the shop was demolished and does not exist and a request to be taking off the tax record; a document from the head of the investigatory panel regarding the arrest of some individuals accused of market manipulation and fraud.
